West Stephentown Baptist Church is in search of a full-time pastor. We are located in upstate New York in close proximity to Bennington, Vermont and Pittsfield, Massachusetts. The Lord has had His candlestick shining in this site for almost 200 years. We are a non-affirming fellowship that ascribes to traditional concepts and precepts given to the Church as described in Scripture such as 1 Peter 1:21. We are an Independent Baptist Church who has enjoyed the shepherding of a pastor for about 47 years.

Qualifications
As stated in the West Stephentown Baptist Church’s Constitution and By-Laws, only such a person as is duly qualified by Christian character, ability and education shall be chosen pastor for the church. He must subscribe to the Scripture as a divine revelation as set forth in II Peter 1:21, inerrant in the original writings, baptism by immersion, and the constitution and by-laws of this church. The Pastor shall be or shall become a member of the church.

General Description
As stated in the West Stephentown Baptist Church’s Constitution and By-Laws, the Pastor:

(a) shall have spiritual oversight of all the activities of the church,
(b) shall be the moderator of all congregational meetings,
(c) shall be a member ex officio of all Boards and Committees, and
(d) shall be chosen by a two-thirds vote of the qualified voters present and voting, upon recommendation of a Pulpit Committee meeting of the church regularly and duly called for that purpose.

Specific Responsibilities
Preaching
Proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in weekly Sunday services, weddings, funerals, baptisms, and dedications.
Maintain a regular program of study to enable him to plan and conduct meaningful worship services.
Plan and promote periods of evangelistic emphasis for the unsaved and renewal for Christians.
Engaging
Support needs that exist outside the traditional role to minister to those in need by supporting local ministries and engaging in community/civic opportunities to minister the Word of God.
Cooperate with and lead the church as a representative in civic matters and local ministries.
Conduct premarital, vocational, family, bereavement, and counseling sessions, etc., as needed. Advise other professional help when necessary.
Visitation
In accordance with Matthew 25:31–40 provide outreach to those in the hospital (congregants and others), shut-ins, nursing homes, etc.
Lead the church in a visitation ministry.

Administration

Oversee management of all areas of the congregation’s ministries.

Follow the West Stephentown Baptist Church Constitution and By-Laws

Moderate all business meetings of the church

Submit quarterly and annual reports at the quarterly and annual business meetings

Develop new leaders and equip others to do the work of the ministry.
