Setting generations free one life at a time
The Desens House is a ministry of Elim Grace Church in Oswego, NY.
The Desens House is a holistic, faith-based, community driven model of recovery, dedicated to setting generations free from substance dependence. This program focuses on the personal and professional development of women struggling with substance use disorders.
Summary of Position: Engage and support women in their recovery and growth towards purposeful living at The Desens House. This position fosters a Christ-like caring atmosphere, focusing on growth & development in a safe, healthy, and healing environment, while striving to meet the practical needs of the residents.
This position currently reports to the Associate Director. This position will coordinate care with Program Coordinator(s), Peer Recovery Advocates, and/or Volunteers (as required and instructed) as a part of supporting the growth of the residents.
This is a ministry role. The Desens House will cover the cost of room, board, and provide a stipend. To cover the costs of additional expenses, SLCs will be encouraged to fundraise or work day jobs with partnering programs if necessary.
Just as the women in recovery have a structured schedule, the SLCs have a structured yet flexible schedule that accommodates for ministry time, but also supports their own mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health to sustain a healthy relationship with Jesus and prevent a burnout mentality. At the Desens House, we recognize that there is a delicate balance between faith and work that can be tough to navigate without healthy social support and boundaries. We work hard to facilitate and foster an environment for growth not only for our women in recovery, but also for our SLCs.
