Joy Community Church Staff Position
Position: Associate Pastor
Date: Summer/Fall 2025
Ministry Expectation: This is a full-time staff position of approximately 40-45 hours per week.
Purpose: The Associate Pastor’s purpose is to provide: administration, oversight, and coordination of ministries and to assist the Lead Pastor. This position is responsible for providing oversight for the day-to-day management and operations of the facility, grounds, finances, and implementation of policies and systems to help Joy Community Church function effectively. The Associate Pastor will function also as an Operations Director for the Gerhardt Neighborhood Outreach Center. This position requires experience in project management and strategic planning. The Associate Pastor is called to foster open communication, cooperation, and a team atmosphere when interacting with elders, staff, leadership and attenders.
The person filling this position must be able to:
1. Assist the Lead Pastor in leading, training, and implementing policies and procedures, and communicating to the staff and congregation.
2. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality regarding the day-to-day function and personal affairs of Joy Community Church.
3. Value servant leadership, open communication, team ministry, and empowering volunteers.
4. Keep a pulse on the morale, activities, and the people and programs of Joy Community Church.
5. Assist in the administrating of the various systems and processes to bring clarity, movement, alignment, and focus to the mission of Joy Community Church. “Our Mission is to make devoted followers of Jesus who are transformed by God’s hope, love and purpose.”
Organizational Relationships:
The Associate Pastor will be responsible to report weekly to the Lead Pastor who will provide guidance, supervision, and reviews for this position. The Associate Pastor will provide leadership, oversight, and execution of goals, programs, events, and ministry at Joy Community Church. Another aspect of this role is to provide leadership and direction to the ministries at the GNOC.
Responsibilities / Duties
1. To coordinate and provide assistance to the Lead Pastor by providing spiritual care and management of the church and the GNOC.
2. To provide administration for building programs, fund-raising, events or activities for both Joy Community Church and the GNOC.
3. To recruit, equip, and lead participants in the administration ministry.
4. To provide organization, set up, and pastoral care for funerals, weddings, and other celebrations.
5. To assist and provide support for the Lead Pastor in recommending, developing, and implementing strategies for finances, ministries, and program development.
6. To provide oversight for guest services, hospitality, ushers, and greeters for our mid-week and Sunday services.
7. To coordinate and oversee various conferences, seminars, and workshops.
8. To purchase various inventory supplies that will support the functioning of facilities, both at Joy Community Church and the GNOC.
9. To organize, coordinate, communicate, and implement church calendar events with staff and the leadership teams.
10. To oversee various aspects of set-up and tear-down, cleanliness, maintenance, repairs, remodeling, and use of the buildings and property of Joy Community Church and the GNOC.
11. To oversee the day-to-day financial responsibilities of Joy Community Church and the GNOC. Including banking, budgeting, reimbursement process and check distribution. This also includes creating yearly financial reports, auditing, setting budgets, and working with the financial team.
12. To be available for emergency situations at Joy Community Church and the GNOC.
Qualifications:
This position requires the following set of qualifications; however, it is also understood that a complete meeting of these standards will not always be possible.
1. Spiritual
a) Confessed salvation and ongoing vital, committed relationship with Jesus Christ.
b) Confessed experience of baptism by water and baptism in the Holy Spirit.
c) A mature believer with an understanding of Joy Community Church’s doctrines of faith.
d) Awareness of spiritual gifts and their impact and expression through their personal life and ministry. Should have some of these spiritual gifts: Pastor/Teacher, Leadership, Administration, Encouragement, Serving.
e) A desire and capability of caring for people.
f) A calling, by God, to serve the local church and its pastor.
h) Faithfully seeking God for the care and well-being of Joy Community Church and the GNOC.
2. Education and Experience
a) Completion of High School or equivalent
b) College focus or training related to ministry or church administration in the areas of finances, organizational systems, facility care and human resources.
c) Some experience in the areas of organization, human resources, communication, computers, and event planning.
d) Possessing a personal desire to be a life-long learner and a team player with a teachable spirit.
3. General
a) Should exhibit a friendly and compassionate, servant attitude and be discreet and professional at all times.
b) The Associate Pastor should be accessible and available to assist the staff and or the various volunteers who require administrative assistance or pastoral care.
c) The Associate Pastor is expected to participate in weekly staff, leadership meetings, trainings, conferences, and personal development.
d) There is flexibility in this role description based upon life experience, personal vision, and ministry goals.
