College Ministry Director

Position Title and Purpose: The title for this position is College Ministry Director (CMD) and the purpose of the CMD is to oversee a comprehensive ministry to the college-aged that helps Christ Community Church (CCC) reach this population with the gospel of Jesus Christ and further engage them in making disciples of Christ.

Position Summary: The College Ministry of CCC includes students at SUNY Geneseo and surrounding colleges, college students who grew up in CCC and return here during breaks, and other college-aged young adults. The CMD will plan and coordinate education, fellowship, and worship opportunities for these young adults, and will be directly accountable to the Senior Pastor (and by extension, to the Elder Board). The expected time commitment is 15 hours per week (on average) and requires a minimum one-year commitment, renewable at the discretion of the Senior Pastor and Elders based on an annual performance evaluation.

Essential Job Functions:

To manage and oversee the four main components of College Ministry, as outlined below (current structure), and to do so in a manner that promotes safety and integrity.  Each of these ministry components will manifest itself in different ways each year depending on the student population and the desired ways of engagement in which best engages them in discipling relationships.  Here are some of the ways it has been done in the past.

Discipleship/teaching
i.     Examples:  College Lunch Discussions at CCC (approximately two hours biweekly), College Leaders Prayer (approximately one hour weekly), meeting with returning CCC student members during college breaks/summer, participating in InterVarsity small groups and Large Group
Outreach:
i.     Examples: Dollar Dinner (approximately two hours weekly); Game nights; local hiking trips, pickleball, summer ADK trips
Relational development:
i.     Examples:  one-on-one or one-on-two meetings (approximately four hours weekly)
InterVarsity Christian Fellowship:
i.     Examples:  Large Group during the academic year and/or Men’s or Women’s Groupthroughout the year (approximately three hours weekly).

To perform all administrative tasks related to the above, which includes:
Recruiting, appointing, developing, supervising, and scheduling all College Ministry volunteers;
Creating opportunities for the College Ministry to engage the larger church fellowship on Sunday mornings and/or other appropriate events, and to transition students into the CCC body upon graduation;
Selecting and submitting for approval curriculum for the upcoming year and maintaining records of courses taught (topic, text, teacher, dates, evaluation);
Coordinating the annual College Ministry budget;
Submitting monthly written reports to the Elders and verbally sharing at congregational meetings.

To effectively communicate with other members of CCC, which includes:
Serving as an advocate for the College Ministry to the rest of CCC;
Meeting regularly with the Senior Pastor to discuss the current status and needs of the College Ministry;
Meeting with and giving direction to the College Council on a monthly basis;
Informing the church secretary of all bulletin inserts and announcements;
Communicating regularly with Trustees regarding facility usage and upkeep;
Working closely with the Youth Ministry Director to ensure a smooth transition from youth ministry to college ministry.

Qualifications:

Membership and regular attendance at Christ Community Church;
Demonstrates a growing commitment to Christ, the study of the Word, prayer, worship (both family and corporate) and fellowship, and strives to maintain an attitude of humility, thanksgiving, generosity, and love;
Possesses the gifts necessary for college ministry, including a genuine heart for young adults, a relational ministry style, the ability to work as part of a team, and excellent organizational skills;
An example-setter and role model in personal life, and one who can servant-lead volunteers;
Ability to take initiative in discovering ways to minister more effectively, and to bring vision, creativity, and innovation to the College Ministry.
